How to Restrict Access on Your Joomla Website

Updated on Jun 27, 2022

If you want to restrict access to your Joomla website, because you want to make changes, you can easily achieve that with one of the core features of Joomla. This feature will place your website offline for all users. You will be able to display a message for them to notify that there is currently maintenance running on your website or a similar message of your choice.

What you need to do is to access the administrative area of your website and then navigate to System -> Global Configuration. Select the Site tab and set the Site Offline value to Yes. For more information on how to enable/disable maintenance mode on your Joomla website and configure a custom offline message, you can review our Joomla offline mode tutorial.
