Employee Spotlight: Darrie T. – The Tech-Savvy Gamer
Meet one of the brilliant minds behind the screen: Darrie T. A tech-savvy gamer with a fluffy QA assistant named Sky and a knack for turning chaos into order. Whether she’s handling a DNS nightmare or debugging an email issue before her second coffee, she approaches every challenge with curiosity, creativity, and the right amount of caffeine.
What makes her journey even more interesting is how it blends passion and play. From an early fascination with terminal windows to a lifelong goal of becoming a sysadmin, she’s made a home in the tech world by following her instincts and never being afraid to ask questions. Add a love for VR, a side quest in culinary experimentation, and an eye for digital art, and you’ve got a teammate who’s as multidimensional as they come. Let’s dive into her story.
Please tell us a little about yourself, your role, and what a typical day looks like, Darrie?
Hi! I’m just your typical 24-year-YOUNG woman trying to make sense of life, one support ticket at a time — alongside my two-year-old cat and unofficial QA assistant, Sky. He’s white, fluffy, and fully convinced this household runs on his schedule. (He’s not wrong.) A typical day starts with coffee, some meowing, and lots of love. Then I power up the PS. Yeah, I’m a gamer girl — not exactly a surprise in the tech world, right?

After some gaming, it’s time to switch gears. I log in, check the queue, put on my invisible cape, and jump straight into helping people fix their websites, emails, DNS nightmares, and everything else you can think of. Somewhere in between tickets you might also catch me making a latte, talking to my cat like he’s a team member, or having an existential crisis over mail settings. You know — normal stuff.
How did you get started in this field? What led you to this company?
I studied software engineering and always wanted to move forward with it. But one day a friend of mine — who’s now a colleague — told me about an open position here and said, “You’ll like it.” I was hesitant at first, because the hosting world felt like uncharted territory.
But then came the training — and I’m not kidding — that’s when I realized that hosting is actually my thing. The combination of technical problem-solving, real-time action, and helping people just clicked. Now I’m here, wielding my virtual magic wand and casting spells like chmod 755 all over the place.
Darrie, what is a valuable lesson you have learned in your career so far?
Give. Yourself. Credit.
At the beginning, I was always focused on what I didn’t know — what I couldn’t do yet, what I hadn’t mastered. That mindset made it hard to really absorb new knowledge. But when I finally paused and looked back, I realized: “Wait, I’ve actually learned a ton.”

So here’s the lesson: Acknowledge how far you’ve come, even if you’re not where you want to be yet. Celebrate what you learned yesterday, and don’t beat yourself up for what you don’t know today.
Is there anything fun or unexpected about you that your colleagues might not know?
Oh, absolutely. My cat Sky — short for Skyler — is basically my coworker. He loves to sit next to me while I work. He watches the screen like he understands SSH logs and purrs at the sound of my keyboard. If you ever get a ticket from me with a typo, there’s a solid chance he walked across the keyboard and “helped.” (Just kidding).

So just know — where there’s my name on a ticket, there’s a QA assistant right beside me.
And how does a day outside of work look like for you?
A day outside of work? Honestly, I don’t separate the two that much. When you love what you do, there’s no such thing as a “work day.” But if I’m not at the desk, you’ll probably find me gaming, working on an art project, or attempting to cook something fancy and failing fabulously.

Lately, I’ve been slicing boxes to the beat in Beat Saber on my VR2—my favorite way to lose track of time and pretend I’m doing cardio. When I need a change of pace, I switch it up with Marvel Rivals or get emotionally wrecked (again) in God of War. Basically, I like to keep my heart rate up—whether it’s from rhythm, rage, or rapid respawns.
I also just started a 2000-piece puzzle that’s staring me down like it knows it’s not going to be whole for the next 4 to 6 business weeks. So far, I’ve managed to open the box and create a very colorful pile of existential dread. But here’s the exciting part—it’s already inspired my next art project! It’s still in its chaotic, abstract stage (much like my puzzle progress), but I’ll share photos once it looks more like art and less like I dropped a box of dreams on the floor.

As for cooking—honestly, takeaway is my loyal companion most days. Blame the fast-paced lifestyle. But when I do find the time to cook, I’m on a meat journey. Having spent most of my life as a vegetarian, I’m now approaching meat with the curiosity of a kid who just unlocked a secret level. Every meal is an adventure… sometimes a tasty one, sometimes a “learning experience.”
So that’s me—in a swirl of VR chaos, jigsaw ambition, and culinary experiments.
Is there a personal goal or achievement you are most proud of or looking forward to?
Since 9th grade, I wanted to be a system administrator — even though I barely understood what that really meant. Coming from a family full of lawyers, nobody around me was tech-savvy. But then one day my nephew visited with my aunt, and I saw him working in a terminal window. It looked like a completely different universe — one I instantly wanted to be a part of. That moment was all it took to spark my curiosity.
And maybe, just maybe, one day after I’ve gained the necessary skills and experience, I’ll finally reach that goal. Until then, I’m learning, growing, and enjoying every step of the journey.
What advice would you give to someone interested in your career path, Darrie?
Ask questions. Always.
Having a question doesn’t mean you don’t know something — it means you’re thinking, analyzing, and trying to know more. That’s how growth happens. Tech support (and tech in general) is about curiosity. So don’t be afraid to speak up, even if you think it’s “too basic.” Chances are, someone else has the same question but hasn’t said it out loud.
