Employee Spotlight: Georgi K. – Beyond the Numbers

At FastComet, we believe that our people are the heart of everything we do. Georgi K. is no exception. As our Billing Team Lead for over eight years, Georgi has mastered the delicate balance of numbers, organization, all with a dash of humor and charm.

From early mornings with coffee and the cat, to keeping our billing processes running like clockwork, he’s a steady hand and a trusted teammate. In this month’s spotlight, we sit down with Georgi to learn more about his journey, his love for sci-fi, and why a well-timed meme can be just as important as a spreadsheet.

Please tell us a little about yourself, your role, and what a typical day looks like?

My name is Georgi, and I work as a Billing Team Lead for FastComet. I have been doing this for more than 8 years now.

The role requires a significant amount of dedication and responsibility, but I have been fortunate to have a great team, which makes things a lot easier. Naturally, I have to do a lot of maths and bookkeeping, so a calculator and a spreadsheet are always present somewhere around.

A typical day starts at around 7AM with the most important task first – feeding the cat, then coffee with emails in front of the TV, then I dive straight into the numbers.

How did you get started in this field? What led you to this company?

Hosting was something that was quite new in my city when I started, so I think curiosity was leading me at that moment. Just wanted to learn something new. At that time, the company was in its first steps, so it was interesting for me to see how I could fit in here and grow along with it.

It turned out that having moderate OCD and an urge to organize things fit into the billing subject quite nicely. You could say that all the circumstances led to this point, and nothing really could have been different, looking back.

What is a valuable lesson you have learned in your career so far?

At the end of the day, when you boil things down to the basics, everything in life, not only career-wise, comes to being honest and accountable. Of course, everything has a learning curve, but I believe that someone who owns their mistakes, learns from them, and stays honest will excel in anything they do.

Is there anything fun or unexpected about you that your colleagues might not know?

I’ve done a few interesting things throughout my life. I was a lifeguard, jumped out of a plane with a parachute, trained Karate, and even ran a 5K in 20 minutes.

At this point, I like to watch the morning news with a cup of coffee, look forward to the next FED meeting/CPI report, and nap at noon when possible. I’m a big sci-fi fan, currently on the road to finishing all sci-fi books and shows in existence!

Literature-wise, some of my favourite authors are Liu Cixin, Asimov, and Frank Herbert. Right now, I’m diving into the world of Arthur Clarke, but British sci-fi comes across a bit differently compared to the others. As far as shows go, Star Trek is first, second, and third on the ladder.

Also, I make great pizza from scratch!

And how does a day outside of work look like for you?

Early mornings are the way to go with me. Nothing like being the first one up – gives you something to brag about for the rest of the day. When the rest of the house is awake, we have breakfast and usually spend the entire day outside.

I can’t stress enough how beneficial being outside is for someone who spends 8-10 hours a day on a laptop. If I can scrape up some time, I enjoy playing video games, specifically WoW or Dota, but that’s been a rare occurrence lately.

Is there a personal goal or achievement you are most proud of or looking forward to?

Looking back, I’m fortunate to say that while no single moment stands out, everything along the way has come together to make a life I’m proud of. I have a great family that I love, and the perfect colleagues to share my workdays and some memes with.

What advice would you give to someone interested in your career path?

Billing is a pretty niche field, and if you’re interested in it, you probably already know what appeals to you about it. You’ll need a knack for numbers, a love of order, and solid communication skills.

I do have two pieces of advice, though:

  1. Stay true to your principles.
  2. Find yourself a meme buddy at work. A well-timed meme beats the standard “Hey” on Teams, and it does wonders for morale and workflow.

Once you’ve got those boxes ticked, just dive in! You’ll be fine.

From Spreadsheets to Starships

Georgi’s story is a reminder that success often comes from a mix of curiosity, consistency, and staying true to your principles.

Whether he’s leading his team through complex billing processes, exploring distant galaxies in sci-fi novels, or perfecting his homemade pizza, Georgi approaches life with dedication and enthusiasm. We’re grateful to have him as part of the FastComet family, and we’ll be sure to test that “great pizza from scratch” claim.
