How to Manage Contacts in Joomla

Overview on how to manage the contacts on your Joomla website

Contacts management in your Joomla website is important if you run a business with different departments and a large number of staff. The configuration of the contacts on your website will ensure that your users can provide feedback or get assistance if necessary.

 

Step 1 Create Contact Category

Log into your website as administrator, click on the Components tab on the top menu and then Contacts > Categories.

 

 

Click on the New button at the top-left corner.

 

 

Edit the following options:

 

  • Title - Enter a title of your new contact category.
  • Category - This tab will allow you to enter a description for the new category, set it's status, access rights, language and parent category (if any at all).
  • Publishing - This will allow you to set a date when the category was created, meta description and keywords, author, etc.
  • Permissions - Set different permissions for the new category.
  • Options - Use different layout for the new category or set an image for it.

 

 

Click the Save & Close button to create the new category.

 

Step 2 Create Contacts

Log into your website as administrator, click the Components tab on the top menu and then Contacts > Contacts.

 

 

Click the New button at the top-left corner.

 

 

  • Name - Enter a name of the new contact.
  • New Contact - Edit some personal information of the new contact, such as a position, telephone number, email, etc.
  • Miscellaneous Information - Contact's miscellaneous information.
  • Publishing - This will allow you to set a date when the category was created, meta description and keywords, author, etc.
  • Display - Set the way the information for your new contact will be displayed.
  • Form - Edit the options for the contact form.

 

 

Click the Save & Close button to create the new contact.

 

Step 3 Display Contacts within the Main Menu

This option allows you to place a contact directly on the main menu of your website. To do so, log into your website as administrator. Click on the Menus and then Top > Add New Menu Item.

 

 

Edit the following options:

 

  • Menu Title  Enter the name of the menu item.
  • Menu Item Type  Select "Single Contact" for the type of the new item.
  • Select Contact  Select the contact that you wish to include.

 

 

Click the Save & Close button to create the new menu item.
